Abstract

1,043,165. Work clamp. REECE CORPORATION. June 25, 1963 [July 19, 1962], No. 25315/63. Heading D1G. [Also in Division A3] A sewing machine has a work clamp for holding a collar interlining and a stiffener (see Division A3) in position relatively to each other while they are sewn together. The clamp comprises a base 18 and a plate 50 pivoted thereto, the plate receiving the stiffener 14 in a recess. The interlining is positioned between members 18 and 50, the pressure 64 closing the clamp and maintaining articles in position. Presser 64 is connected to the plate 50 by a pin and slot to provide lost motion to allow the presser 64 to rise a short distance before the plate 50 is raised as the arm 62 lifts after sewing. In a modification in which the stiffener is positioned below the collar interlining during stitching the base 18 has a stiffener receiving plate disposed thereon and twin pressers press the parts together during stitching.
