Abstract
1,043,134. Haymaking machines. PATENT CONCERN N.V. Jan. 31, 1964 [Feb. 6, 1963; Sept. 3, 1963], No. 4296/64. Heading A1F. A haymaking machine comprises a plurality of tined rotors 4, 5, 6 and 7 adapted to be driven from a power-take-off of a tractor via a shaft 53, the rotors being supported in pairs on two frame members 2, 3 which are pivotally mounted on a further frame member 1. The rotors comprise four arms 45 each having tines 47, 48, 49, 50, the tines 47, 48 being relatively thick for displacing heavy accumulations of crop but short so that they are out of ground contact and the tines 49, 50 being relatively thin but long for contacting the ground. The drives for the rotors 4, 5 are derived from a shaft extending along the interior of frame member 2, this shaft also serving to drive through bevel gears and universal joints a shaft extending along the interior of frame member 1 which in turn drives a shaft in frame member 3 for the rotors 6, 7. The tow bar 81 is connected to the frame member 2 for pivoting in a vertical plane, the amount of pivoting, in the working position shown, being restricted in one direction by a lug 80 on the frame moving in a slot on the tow bar. Each frame beam 2, 3 can have limited pivotal movement with respect to the frame beam 1 about pivots 13 set in a U-shaped bracket 10 to accommodate for undulations in the ground but can be locked rigid with the beam 1. For transport the beams 2, 3 can be swung through 90 degrees relative to the beam 1, the beam being locked in position by a locking pin 28 on an arm 26 engaging in an aperture in the beam 1 and the beam 2 being free to pivot with respect to the beam 1 for steering purposes. During this relative movement of the beams, the beams 2, 3 turn about a longitudinal axis relative to the beam 1 whereby the tines are lifted clear of the ground. The machine can be combined with a tractor and a mower arranged so that as the mower cuts one swath, the machine engages the two previously cut swaths. In this combination the machine can be replaced by a drum tedder.
