1,042,956. Outer moulds used in machine for producing ice-cream cones and the like. J. GRECO. Nov. 17, 1964 [Aug. 21, 1963], No. 33059/63. Heading B5A. In a machine for producing ice-cream cones and the like, for example as described in Specification 1,042,955, the outer moulds are split and the mould halves arranged in two rows along the opposed faces of a pair of mould carriers supported between a bed-plate and upper guide plate, the plates being parallel to the carriers and transverse to the direction of travel of the mould assembly, there being provided ram and cylinder assemblies for opening and closing the moulds. As shown, the carriers have upper and lower flanges 3 and 4, are recessed to support the mould halves 1 and are provided with complementary sets of ribs M; A, O and C. The ribs M carrying wheels 9 to facilitate opening and closing the moulds and the ribs A being recessed to engage columns supporting the upper guide plate, on closing the moulds. Rams 13 at each end of a hollow ram rod 14 are housed in cylinders 12 in the complementary ribs O, one cylinder being connected behind the ram to a source of compressed air, and rams 17 at each end of a hollow ram rod 18 are housed in cylinders 16 in the complementary ribs C, each cylinder being connected in front of the ram to a source of compressed air. To close the moulds compressed air is fed from a pipe 11 via ducts 20 and 21, in front of the rams 17 in the cylinders 16, whereby the mould carriers come together to close the moulds, the air in the cylinders 16 behind the ram passing through the hollow ram rod 18 and out through an aperture 22, and the air in cylinders 12 being fed off by bleeder pipes to produce a cushioning effect. To open the moulds compressed air is fed into cylinders 12 from pipe 10, air entering cylinders 16 through aperture 22. To ensure longitudin alalignment of the mould carriers, wheels or slots may be provided on the flanges 3 to engage ledges or projections on the upper guide plate.
