Abstract
Alkyl or substituted alkylpolysiloxanes containing Si-bonded H atoms are made by reacting together (1) a dialkyl or di-substituted alkyl polysiloxane, (2) a hexa-alkyl- or bisdialkylhydrogen-disiloxane and (3) an organopolysiloxane of average mol. weight up to 5000 and containing Si-bonded H atoms, in the presence of ferrous, ferric, cuprous or cupric sulphate. Substituted alkyl groups specified are aminopropyl groups. The sulphate is used in amount of 0.25 to 10% by weight of the reaction mixture, and the reaction is effected at 15 DEG to 150 DEG C. In a typical Example (1) hexamethyldisiloxane, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and trimethylsilyl-terminated methylhydrogenpolysiloxane were mixed with FeSO4 and the resulting mixture was heated at 111 DEG C. for 2 1/4 hours to yield the desired polymer.
