Abstract

1,042,409. Ionization chambers. HITACHI SEISAKUSHO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 13, 1962], No. 39882/63. Heading H1D. A detector of gases and vapours, for use in a gas chromatograph, comprises a discharge chamber 9 containing wire electrodes 14 one of which is connected to a source of negative potential and the other earthed to produce a discharge in helium admitted through an inlet 11. Electrons from the discharge pass to a sensing chamber 10 containing a semispherical cathode 16 and a tubular anode 17 connected to a source of positive potential and to an inlet 12 for argon carrying a sample gas which is ionized and the resulting ionization current measured by an electrometer amplifier (not shown) connected to the cathode 16.
