Abstract
104,202. Leech, B. Feb. 22, 1916. Washing, processes for.-Pectic matter is removed from vegetable fibres, such as cotton or linen in raw or manufactured state, by treatment with aqueous hydrochloric acid at or near boiling temperature, the amount of acid being such as will completely remove all pectic matter, but not sufficient to c.etrimentally affect the fabric, such amount being predetermined by tests for the fibre under treatment. The pectic acid and soluble chlorides formed are removed by washing with water and alkalis.
