Abstract
1,041,899. Couplings. B. P. J. M. VAN RIJSWIJCK. Dec. 4, 1964, No. 49487/64. Headings H2C and H2E. The Figure shows the bottom of one earth electrode 13 to be coupled to the top of another 14. A sleeve 12 is provided which on both sides of a chamfered portion 10 has a parallel bore 11 of slightly less diameter than that of the rods 13, 14, and a portion 12 which flares outwardly at an angle between 0À25 and 5 degrees. The width of chamfer is not sufficient to prevent the upper rod making direct contact with the lower. The Specification also describes an arrangement (Fig. 1, not shown), in which a narrow portion on one electrode engages a sleeve formed in the top of the lower one. Copper-plated steel is suggested for the electrode rods and bronze or copper for the sleeves.
