Abstract

Selected area of a cathodic workpiece are electroplated by applying an electroplating electrolyte to the workpiece through a contacting mask consisting of a porous ceramic layer saturated with electrolyte and having a discontinuous impervious surface layer on the face contacting the workpiece. Preferably the ceramic member has pores which are between 60 and 100m and the discontinuous impervious surface is formed by glazing it and removing the glaze in selected areas as by engraving, ultrasonic machining or diamond drill milling.
