[Also in Division A2] Containers 8 of food are passed through a sterilizing apparatus comprising endless chains 3 on which are mounted carriers 4 provided with at least one annular constriction 6, whereby two adjacent containers in the carrier are caused to be spaced apart as the carrier undergoes rotation. The diameter of the carrier is reduced by between 4% and 10% at the constriction. The constriction may be eccentric with respect to the centre of the carrier.
