Abstract

Two-layer tape is woven by inserting weft from both edges by means of eyed needles, each co-operating with a knitting needle to form a selvedge. At one edge, at least, both wefts are knitted together, thereby joining the two layers to produce a tape of V-shape. Tubular tape may be made by knitting both wefts together at both edges, and the join may be reinforced by interweaving some of the edge warp threads in both layers; the two layers may be joined together by warp threads along spaced lines to produce multitubular tape. In a V-shaped tape, for use as curtain heading tape, slits to receive T-headed suspension members may be formed at the fold by knitting only the weft inserted from the other edge at intervals, the weft inserted from the folded edge forming a normal selvedge at one edge of the slit. The two layers may be of different widths. Pleating cords may be woven into one layer of the V-shaped tape, or into each layer, or may be woven through both layers, thereby joining them together. Another cord near the folded edge may form short loops on the surface to receive suspension hooks.
