Abstract

103,995. Hansen, A. P. M., and Nielsen, A. Feb. 8, 1916, [Convention date]. Bed-rests; bedstead adjustments. - In a bedstead provided with a head-rest adapted to be raised or lowered by the occupant, the head-rest 4 is hinged at 21 to the mattress frame 1, adjustment of the rest being effected by means of a cord 6 attached to an arm 10 and to a link 5 pivoted to the rest. The rest carries a pulley 8 which is constrained to run on a cord 9 fastened to the part 1 and wrapped round the shaft 17 on which the arm 10 is mounted. The arm 10 is also connected to a spring 18. A toothed wheel 12 is fast on the shaft 17 and is locked by a tooth 13 on a spring 11. A lever 2 is rotatably mounted on the shaft 17 and is fitted with a slide 14 having a tooth 15 thereon to engage the wheel 12, and a cam 16 to engage the spring 11. The slide 14 is operated by means of a handle 20 and rod 3 to disengage the tooth 13 and engage the tooth 15, whereby the lever 2 is locked to the shaft 17, the adjustment of the bed-rest being effected by the operation of the lever.
