Abstract

1,039,037. Automatic speed and current control. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Dec. 9, 1964 [Dec. 18, 1963], No. 50014/64. Heading G3R. A signal Vk, derived from device 1 in accordance with the setting of a control handle, is compared with signal V representing the speed of trac-i tion motor 5, the error signal V being fed to control amplifier 2. The output signal Jk from the control amplifier represents a required motor current and this is compared with signal J indicating the actual motor current. The error signal i is applied to regulator 3 providing signal Y3 to be fed to a servo controller or stepping switch 4 for controlling the voltage applied to the motor. The signal Y3 has a constant negative, constant positive, or zero value according to whether the signal i lies below, above, or within a predetermined range. The reference signal Vk is derived from a poten- - tial divider which is adjusted by a D.C. motor. Switches operable by the control handle are adapted to connect the D.C. motor to a required tapping of a further potential divider selectively, whereby the D.C. motor is driven in either direction or held stationary in accordance with the position of the control handle. A change-over switch connects the D.C. motor to a fixed tapping of the further potential divider, irrespective of the position of the control handle, when the traction motor is being started and before it reaches a predetermined speed. The control handle is movable to a position in which the system is not operable to control the traction motor speed, the D.C. motor then being supplied with a current-error signal so that, when the system is reactivated, the transition to control of the traction motor by the system will be effected smoothly. In the event of wheel-spin, the reference signal Vk is reduced by compounding it with a signal V'k which is proportional to motor current and is delayed by network 16. At the cessation of wheel-spin, the reference signal is returned exponentially to its original value. The control amplifier 2 has a characterisitic such that signal Jk is proportional to signal v over a certain range but its maximum and minimum values are limited. The control amplifier may be of the transductor or transistor type.
