Abstract
3-Hydroxypicolinamide and novel 3-hydroxy-picolinonitrile are prepared by reacting chlorine or bromine in an aqueous acid medium with a compound of the formula <FORM:1038342/C2/1> wherein Y represents a cyano radical and Z represents a hydrogen atom or the carbamoyl radical and 3-hydroxypicolinamide is prepared by the above process when (a) Y represents the carbamoyl radical and Z represents a hydrogen atom; or (b) Y and Z together represent the diradical -CO-NH-CO-. a - Ureido - 2 furanacetonitrile is prepared by reacting furfural with sodium cyanide to give 2-furanglyconitrile which is subsequently heated to 100 DEG C. a - Amino - 2 - furanacetonitrile hydrochloride is prepared by reactin 2-furanglyconitrile with liquid ammonia and neutralizing the resultant base with ethanolic hydrogen chloride. a - Amino - 2 - furanacetamide hydrochloride is prepared by treating a -amino-2-furanaceto-nitrile with conc. hydrochloric acid. 2H - Pyrido[2,3 - e][1,3] oxazine - 2,4(3H)-dione is formed by the reaction of a lower chloroformic alkyl ester with 3-hydroxypicolinamide in the presence of quinoline or symmetrical collidine.
