Abstract

1,037,523. Clutch control, friction clutches. S.A. FRANCAISE DU FERODO. Jan. 27, 1964 [Feb. 2, 1963], No. 3438/64. Headings F2C and F2L. A control for sequentially disengaging two clutches 24, 24<SP>1</SP>in a selected order comprises two pedals 11, 11<SP>1</SP>respectively connected to clutch release forks 34, 34<SP>1</SP>,through linkages 36, 40, 41, 42; 36<SP>1</SP>,40<SP>1</SP>,411, 421 and connected to each other through a lost motion coupling 13 so that depression of one pedal 11 (or 11<SP>1</SP>) initially acts on its release fork 34 (or 34<SP>1</SP>) to disengage the associated clutch 24 (or 24<SP>1</SP>) and takes up the lost motion in the coupling 13 whereafter further movement of the pedal 11 (or 11<SP>1</SP>) acts through the coupling 13 to disengage the other clutch 24<SP>1</SP>(or 24). As shown the linkages comprise a cam plate 40 fast with the pedal 11 which plate co-operates with a follower 41 on a lever 42 connected through a rod 45 with the release fork 33. The cam plate 40 has an inclined portion BC which effects clutch disengagement and an arcuate portion CD which retains the fork 33 in the clutch disengage position during further movement of the pedal. The clutch pedals 11, 11<SP>1</SP>and levers 42, 42<SP>1</SP>are biased towards the clutch engaged position by springs 35, 44. The clutches 23, 24<SP>1</SP> which connect an engine-driven input flywheel 22 to two concentric output shafts 21. 21<SP>1</SP> respectively driving a tractor mains transmission and power take-off comprise driven discs 24, 24<SP>1</SP> splined to the output shafts 21, 21<SP>1</SP> and clamped between the flywheel 22 and presser plates 23, 23<SP>1</SP>by diaphragm springs 28, 28<SP>1</SP>.The clutch release forks 33, 33<SP>1</SP> act through thrust bearings 32, 32<SP>1</SP>on inner fingers 30, 30<SP>1</SP>of the springs. In Figs. 7-9 (not shown) the cam and follower are replaced by springs which transmit the initial pedal movement to the release fork whereafter the spring abuts a stop so that subsequent movement of the pedal compresses the spring. The lost motion coupling 13 may be arranged so that disengagement of the second clutch commences simultaneous with, prior to or after completion of disengagement of the first clutch.
