Abstract

Compounds of the general formulaeae <FORM:1037375/C2/1> and <FORM:1037375/C2/2> (wherein R1 and R4 each represent a C1- 7 alkyl group, R2 represents a halogen atom or a nitro or trifluoromethyl group, R3 represents a halogen atom or a trifluoromethyl, nitro or cyano group and the broken lines denote optional substituents) and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by intramolecularly condensing a compound of the formula (I) <FORM:1037375/C2/3> (wherein R5 represents a C1- 7 alkoxy, hydroxy or aryloxy group), optionally followed by (a)-when R1 is absent-oxidation by means of an oxidizing system the oxidation potential of which is greater than 0.32 volt and/or (b) acid addition salt formation. The preparation of starting materials of formula (I) is described.
