[Also in Division B7] A device for automatic interruption of the current furnished by a battery to the electrical system of a motor vehicle consists of a U-tube partially filled with mercury 4 in which are immersed electrodes 5, 6. Two vertical branches of the U -tube emerge from the base of a chamber 10. The branches are insulated and spaced from the walls and top of the chamber, and a base plane of the chamber is on a higher level than that of the mercury within the tube. The base has a stopper (valve 12) which normally closes communication between the chamber and the tube.
