Abstract

1,037,100. Umbrellas. FINKEL UMBRELLA FRAME CO. Inc. Sept. 8, 1964 [Nov. 19, 1963], No. 36795/64. Heading A4P. In an umbrella frame each rib 22 and the associated stretcher 23 are moulded integrally in synthetic plastics, the end 24 of the stretcher being thinned to form a self-hinge and thinned ends 25, 26 forming self hinges disconnectably secured to the notch 28 and runner 27. Similar members form the notch and runner and consist of a flanged sleeve with a centrally apertured mounting disc having depressions to receive the thinned ends 25, 26 which are retained by the engagement of pins 36 in apertures in a clamping disc 38. The notch is secured to the stick 20 by crimping. In modifications either the notch or the runner is moulded integrally with the ribstretcher unit. The moulded parts are preferably made of polypropylene having 15 to 40% of talc or asbestos filler, the thinned parts having a thickness of onesixteenth of an inch.
