Abstract

1,037,050. Vehicle doors. L. J. WILLEMARK. Oct. 23, 1964 [Oct. 25, 1963; Feb. 19, 1964], Nos. 42240/63 and 7008/64. Heading B7J. [Also in Division F4] A motor vehicle door fitting comprises a lamp housing 2, Fig. 1, mounted in a recess in the bottom of the forwardly hinged door, the housing having an amber coloured lens 3 at one end adjacent an aperture in the door rear edge, and a bottom window, the arrangement being such that when the door is opening and open light from the lamp bulb 1 is directed downwardly through the window to illuminate the ground and also through the lens 3 to the rear of the vehicle, to serve as a warning light. Wiring 5 for the lamp I passes through a rubber grommet 6 in the door to a door switch 7 of the interval lighting system of the vehicle and to an earth at 8. The housing is secured in the door recess on a mounting flange through a sponge rubber lining 4. In another embodiment the fitting comprises a backing plate 21, Fig. 5 (not shown), mounting a lamp 22, the plate being apertured at 24 to receive screws for securing it to the inner side of a vehicle door, and a red transparent synthetic plastic cover part, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). Internally, the latter is moulded with longitudinal ribs 29 at and near each end and centrally with a pattern of projecting prisms 30. Ribs 27 are engageable with the edges 26 of bent-up flaps 25 of the backing plate 21, to secure the cover to the plate, and the window is formed by a slot 28. Externally the cover is coated with a layer of aluminium except for the region over the area of the prisms 30 and the region of the ribs 29 nearest the rear edge of the associated door, whereby a wide-angle lens section is provided between A and B. In a further embodiment the fitting is incorporated in an arm rest for the door and a recess in the top of the arm rest serves as a receptacle for small articles.
