Abstract

Novel compounds of the general formula <FORM:1037027/C2/1> (wherein R represents Br or F and R1 a methyl, ethyl o n-propyl radical) are produced by reacting a phenylethylamine of the general formula <FORM:1037027/C2/2> with a chloroformic ester ClCOOR1. Phenylethylamines of the second general formula above are prepared by reacting the corresponding alcohol of the general formula <FORM:1037027/C2/3> with HCN or an alkali metal cyanide in the presence of a strong acid or acetic acid to yield a formamide of the general formula <FORM:1037027/C2/4> and hydrolysing this with a strong mineral acid.
