Abstract

In fibre mixing apparatus fibres are delivered, successively, to shoots or hoppers S1...S10 (see Fig. 1, not shown) via common delivery means, such as a pneumatic duct f and each shoot has at its lower end a grating c through which a spiked device such as a spiked rotating roller h can project to draw fibres from the shoot to a common conveyer g beneath the shoots. The mixed fibres then pass to a pneumatic outlet i. The shoots have flaps a at their upper ends and these are opened and closed in succession under the influence of photo-electric or pressure devices in the shoots to ensure that the shoots do not become empty. Walls d of the shoots are perforated to allow the conveying air to pass therethrough. Oscillating flaps k at the lower end of the shoots keep the films in this region in motion. The spikes on each roller h (see Fig. 2, not shown) are in two series, the spikes in one series being inclined to the surface of the roller in a direction opposing that in which the spikes of the other series are inclined so that the direction of rotation of the rollers may be reversed, at say, 5 sec. intervals. The adjoining portions of the gratings c are movable by a control device v so that penetration of the roller spikes into the grating may be adjusted. When a different type of fibre is to be mixed flaps l in the shoots may be operated to prevent mixing of the two fibres.
