Abstract

103,662. House, H. A. Jan. 21, 1916, [Convention date]. Belts.-A series of sheet-metal link units working on knife-edges are detachably linked together to form a belt, or a series of such link units are attached to a flexible backing of leather or fabric. Fig. 1 shows a belt made up of broad and narrow link units 1, 2 arranged to break joint. A knifeedge 5 on the end of each link engages a bent lip 3 on the end of the adjacent link, and transverse movement is prevented by spring tongues 7 on the links engaging recesses 8 in adjacent links. The links are curved, as shown at a', Fig. 4, to fit the pulley A. A series of links without the tongues 7 may be attached by stamped tongues or otherwise, side by side to a backing of leather or fabric to form a composite belt of any width.
