Aug. 2, 1916. l'ile fabrics.-In cut-pile fabrics of the kind in which the pile warps are arranged in sets, the pile units of one set being looped over certain wefts and under the adjacent wefts with intermediate wefts between them, and the pile units of the adjacent sets being looped over these intermediate wefts and under the adjacent wefts, the adjacent sets of pile units are separated from each other by single binding- warps, or certain of the sets are not separated from each other but are separated from the other adjacent sets by binding-warps. As shown, the tufts 12 are formed over wires from two sets 7, 8 of pile units, which pass over alternate wefts 9, 11 respectively and are looped up round opposite sides of the intervening wefts 10, and the arrangement is such that the units of each set are separated by single wefts, which are passed over by the units of the other set, so that each unit of one set serves to tie together two adjoining units of the other set. Single binding-warps 17, Fig. 2, may separate the sets of pile units and may pass over and under single wefts, as shown; or pairs of wefts, or single binding-warps 15, Fig. 1, all passing over and under the same wefts, or two oppositely-shed binding-warps may separate pairs of sets of pile units. The tension on the wefts may exceed that on the binding-warps as shown, or vice versa.
