Abstract
1,035,788. Making lead-through conductors, welding by pressure. W. MÍTZ. Sept. 11. 1963, No. 35797/63. Headings B3A, B3E and B3R. A method of making three-piece lead-through conductors for pressure discs of electronic valves in which sets of different wires are fed to cutting devices from two opposite sides and the severed lengths are held in electrically conductive clamps to successively weld the ends together comprises forming a double length of contact pin from one of the wires, breaking the pin by heating the centre portion thereof and pulling it apart by way of the clamps to form two contact pins which are each coaxially welded to two other wire lengths to form the three-piece conductors. Nickel wire 6, 1 mm. diameter from reel 1, 0À4 mm. copper clad wire 7, 9 from reels 2, 4 and 0À5 mm. nickel wire 8, 10 from reels 3, 5 is advanced to stops and lengths 21-25 simultaneously cut therefrom and collected in hoppers 26-30. The lengths are subsequently gripped, by electrically conductive clamps, in coaxial alignment, the clamps 35, 36, Fig. 2 (not shown), grip the length 21 which is inductively heated and are moved apart to sever the length into two equal contact pin lengths. The clamps 35, 36 then move the ends of the pins into contact with the ends of the lengths 22, 24 held by clamps 31, 33 and a current impulse through the clamps effects welding of the ends, subsequently the clamps move the ends of the lengths 22, 24 into contact with the lengths 23, 25 to similarly weld the lengths together. Finally a pair of grinding wheels produce a truncated cone form on the ends of the pins 21 and the clamps open to drop the completed assemblies into hoppers where they are checked for length, welding and size of weld by electronic and optical means and are subsequently electronically counted and automatically packed in boxes. The clamp movements may be controlled by electronic or mechanical means, such as cams.
