Abstract

1,035,705. Flame-arresters. J. NEUMANN. March 20,1964 [July 22, 1963], No. 11868/64. Heading A5A. A capillary flame arrester for preventing the ingress of flames into fuel tanks comprises two or more capillary layers 5 arranged coaxially in parallel in a cylindrical housing 1 which incorporates a central pipe leading out to the fuel tank through the bottom of the housing, the top of the housing being closed by a bell-shaped cover 6. Through flow apertures 7 between the capillary layers alternate with apertures 8 leading to the central pipe so that air must pass through one or other of the capillary layers (honeycomb grids, sieves, layers of glass balls, &c. ) when passing into or out of the fuel tank.
