Abstract

1,035,042. Transistor amplifying circuits. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. June 7, 1963 [June 8, 1962], No. 22752/63. Heading H3T. A low-pass electrical filter circuit comprises an input terminal between which and an earth connection an input signal is applied and which is connected through a first resistor to an output terminal, and a high-gain phase-inverting low imput impedance amplifier having its input and output circuits coupled to the output terminal through first and second capacitors respectively. The values of the capacitors are such that the attenuation factor of the filter is a second order function of the frequency of the input signal and the attenuation rises with frequency for frequencies above the resonant frequency. As shown in Fig. 1, one input terminal 10 of the filter is connected through variable resistor R1 to one output terminal. The amplifier comprises a transistor common emitter stage T1 followed by a common collector stage T2, the input signal to the amplifier being applied through capacitor C1 and negative feedback being provided between the emitter of transistor T2 and lead 25 by capacitor C2 and between the base of transistor T1 and a tapping on the emitter impedance R3, R4 of transistor T2. In operation, the D.C. component of the input signal e 1 passes directly to output terminal 26 and the A.C. component passes to phase inverting amplifier T1, the current passing through capacitor C1 being directly proportional to the magnitude and frequency of the input signal. Due to the negative feedback over capacitor C2 and choice of values of the components the A.C. components appearing at the output of the filter are highly attenuated at frequencies above a predetermined frequency. The feedback signal through resistor R3 to input of transistor T1 serves to stabilize the amplifier and lower the input impedance.
