Abstract

1,034,952. Washing hollow vessels. H. L. MACDONALD. Feb. 3, 1964 [Aug. 14, 1963], No. 4418/64. Heading B8T. A washing machine for cleaning tumblers or like glass vessels is placed in a sink containing cleansing fluid and the tumblers are placed over brushes 39 and are cleaned internally and externally by the brushes both rotating and rising and falling. An electric motor, positioned above the level of the cleansing fluid at the end of a standard 10, drives a shaft 15 which has a pinion 17 fixed thereto, the pinion being in constant mesh with an idler gear which is in mesh with gears 24, 26 and 27 to which brush carrying shafts are attached. The gears and bushings in which the shafts rotate and slide have spiral grooves in which metallic balls 37 rotate causing vertical displacement of the gears and thus of the brushes 39. The gears are thick to allow for relative shifting movement and are made preferably of a plastics material. A triangular two-part housing 6, 7 of aluminium contains the gears and bushings which may also be formed of metal.
