Abstract

1,034,734. Bearings. C.A.V. Ltd. Jan. 13, 1964 [Jan. 14, 1963], No. 1533/63. Heading F2A. In a shaft bearing assembly e.g. for a turbocharger in which the shaft 3 is rotatably supported within a cylindrical bush 5 which in turn is rotatable within a hole in a body part 4, the body part and bush 5 have formed therein lubricating passages 6, 6a and 7 respectively. A thrust collar 9 surrounds the shaft at one end of the bush, said collar having a flange 10, a cover 13 is secured to the body part having a hole through which the collar passes, a thrust ring 11 is attached to the cover, bearing against flange 10 and means 14, 15 are provided on the collar for directing lubricant to the coacting thrust faces of the thrust ring 11 and collar 9 respectively. Lubricant from the passage 6a flows into the annular groove 14 and lubricant from the passages 6 flows into the passages 7. From groove 14 the lubricant flows through passages 15 to the space between the collar 9 and the thrust ring 11. Excess lubricant is drained to space 18 via passage 17. The thrust ring 11 is secured to the cover 13 by means of spokes 12 attached to the cover.
