Abstract
Polyurethanes are prepared by reacting an organic polyiso(thio) cyanate with an amino-phosphazene which contains in its molecular structure at least two active hydrogen atoms, together with a halogen-containing polyol and/or polyol that does not contain halogen. The aminophosphazene may be a derivative of 2,2,4,4,6,6 - hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene in which at least two of the halogen atoms are replaced by amino or alkylamine or aralkylamino groups, e.g. 2,2,4,4,6,6-hexaminocyclo-triphosphazene, or derivatives of 2,2,4,4,6,6,8,8-octahalocyclotetraphosphazene in which at least 2 of the halogen atoms are replaced by amino, or alkylamino or aralkylamino, e.g. 2,2,4,4,6,6,8,8 - octaaminocyclotetraphosphazene. The halogen containing polyol may be a polyhaloether polyol, e.g. a glycerol epichlorhydrin or a sorbitol-propylene oxide-epichlorhydrin adduct. The non-halogen-containing polyol may be an adduct of an alkylene oxide with a nucleating agent, e.g. polyoxypropylene glycol or sorbitol propylene oxide adducts. In an Example (1) a mixture of 2,2,4,4,6,6-hexa-n-butylaminocyclotriphosphazene; 2,2,4,4,6,6,8,8-octa - n - butylaminocyclotetraphosphazene; a glycerol epichlorhydrin adduct; p,p1-diphenyl-methane diisocyanate, triethylene diamine, triethylamine, silicone oil and either water or trichlorofluoromethane was prepared and allowed to react to form a fire-resistant polyurethane foam.
