Abstract

1,029,458. Pistons. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. Dec. 3, 1964 [Jan. 3, 1964], No. 48240/64. Heading F2T. [Also in Division F1] In a dispensing container of the type in which the product to be dispensed is separated from the propellant by a piston, the latter is sealed by a hydrogel formed on its upper surface. The piston may have a skirt depending into the propellant section in which case the hydrogel is present between the skirt and container wall or the piston may be of cellular material in which case the hydrogel seats the upper surface in contact with the product. The hydrogel is formed by the reaction of a salt (borax) contained in the product to be dispensed with an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution previously applied to the piston.
