Abstract

Ethylene polymers are stabilized with a phenolic antioxidant + a saturated aliphatic or aryl-substituted aliphatic carboxylic acid which is a monocarboxylic acid or a polycarboxylic acid in which the carboxyl groups are either linked to a single carbon atom, the remaining valencies of which are satisfied solely by hydrogen or hydrocarbon groups, or the carboxyl groups are linked to different carbon atoms in an otherwise wholly hydrocarbon chain. The phenolic antioxidant may be an alkylated phenol, a phenol/aldehyde condensate, a phenolic sulphate or a dihydroxy phenol. Numerous carboxylic acids are specified.
