Abstract

A process for the production of cellular articles comprises mixing a copolymer of 1,3-butadiene and 5 to 40% by weight of a monovinyl aromatic compound based on the weight of the copolymer, said copolymer having been prepared by polymerizing 1,3-butadiene and said monovinyl aromatic compound in an inert organic solvent in the presence of a lithium alkyl as catalyst and a polar organic solvent inert to the catalyst; with a chemical blowing agent and heating the mixture. Styrene and methyl styrenes are specified as the monovinyl aromatic compound. Suitable blowing agents are sulpho-hydrazides, diazoaminobenzene, dinitrosopentamethylene tetramine, azodicarbonamide, azodiisobutyric acid dinitrile, sodium bicarbonate and ammonium bicarbonate.
