Abstract

1,029,052. Pilot controlled A.G.C. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 8, 1963 [April 11, 1962], No. 13890/63. Heading H4R. In a carrier wave telephony system a pilotcontrolled gain arrangement comprises a signal amplifier having a gain controlling negative feedback circuit including a thermistor the current through which is derived from the pilot signal at the output of the signal amplifier. Fig. 1 shows a signal amplifier 2 from the output of which the pilot signal is extracted by filter 3 and applied via amplifier 4 to a rectifier 5, the resulting D.C. signal is amplified in amplifier 8 in whose output circuit is connected the thermistor 7 the impedance of which is reflected, via transformer 17, into the gain controlling feedback circuit 6 of amplifier 2. The D.C. amplifier 8 has negative feedback from the output circuit to the input via resistors 21 and 22, this arrangement giving a lower gain to rapid changes of pilot signal in amplifier 8 due to the thermal inertia of the thermistor.
