Abstract
Growing plants are sprayed with a substituted benzoic acid herbicide between 10 and 60 days before harvest in order to increase the plant food content in the storage organs of the plants. The herbicide may contain a methoxy, chloro, bromo, amino or methyl radical and may be in the form of a sodium, potassium, copper, chromium, magnesium, ammonium or amine salt. It may be sprayed in conventional form as a solution, suspension or dusting powder in an amount of 0.01-5 lb./acre. A liquid may be applied at 2-100 gallons/acre. A dust may contain 0.1-10% of herbicide. Plants which may be treated include potato, sugar beet, yam, cassava, artichoke, cyperus esculentus, dahlia, carrot, turnip, onion, tulip, daffodil, anemone, gladiolus, iris, sugar cane and sago.
