Abstract

1,028,756. Marine lamps. ELASTIC STOP NUT CORPORATION OF AMERICA. March 24, 1964 [April 3, 1963], No. 12447/64. Heading F4R. A marine lantern comprises a base having an upwardly facing annular flange surface 20 of predetermined outer diameter and a lens having an outwardly extending annular peripheral flange 26 of smaller outer diameter with a downwardly facing flange surface 28 confronting the radially inner portion of the surface 20 but spaced therefrom by a resilient annular sealing member 24. The lens is secured to the base by a mounting ring 30 having an outer flange 32 in engagement with the radially outer portion of the surface 20 and an inner flange 34 in overlapping engagement with the upwardly facing surface of the flange 26. The ring 30 is hinged at one side to the base, and is clamped to the flange 18 by a plurality of spaced wing-headed screws 46 (Fig. 5, not shown) to compress the lens against the sealing member 24. The lens flange 26 is loosely attached to the ring 30 by screws 56 (Fig. 4, not shown), so that the lens may expand or contract in response to changes in the ambient temperature, a clearance for this purpose being provided between the opposing annular walls 68, 70 of the lens and ring. A plurality of radial drainage channels 64, 66 are formed in the ring to prevent water from accumulating in the annular space 76.
