Abstract

1,028,004. Spray-producers; coating apparatus. FABRIK FUR FIRESTONE PRODUKTE A.G. Sept.19, 1963.No. 36986/63 Headings B2B and B2F. A spray nozzle, Fig. 1, for producing a composite spray of two different substances comprises two separate channels 5, 12 which communicate with each other, if at all, only at their outlet ends and are adapted for the passage therethrough of a powdered or liquid substance, a pipe 1 for feeding a liquid such as petroleum and/or oil and/or alcohol into the channel 5, a conveyer screw 6 for feeding powdered material such as graphite and/or mica into the channel 12, a helical channel 4 which gives a swirling movement to air passing through a duct 3 and causes a swirling of the liquid in the channel 5, and a helical channel 11 which provides air passing down a tube 10 with a swirling motion and causes the powder in the channel 12 to develop a swirling motion, the outlet ends 13, 14 of the channels 12, 5 being inclined towards each other so that the swirling jets of substances emerging therefrom intersect each other and form the composite spray. Alternatively powdered material may be sprayed through the channel 5 and liquid through the channel 12 or the nozzle may be used to spray two liquids having different properties. The two substances are rotated in opposite directions by their respective air streams. In order to guide the composite spray two air screens are provided by forcing air through holes 15, 16 which are arranged so that the screens swirl in opposite senses. The spraying angle, Fig. 4 (not shown) may be between 0 degrees - 180 degrees andFig. 5 (not shown) depicts guiding air jets for spraying the composite substance downwardly. Figs 6 and 7 (not shown) depict guide jets for spraying round and elongated articles. Fig. 3 shows an unvulcanized tyre 27 about to be sprayed by a nozzle supported by a member 9 which may be raised or lowered by a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder. Liquid is fed through a head 22; powder from a hopper 23 containing a rotating wire loop 24. Excess air and spray are exhausted through a perforated lower plate 29. If required an air-solvent mixture may be sprayed first and an air-powder mixture, which adheres to the solvent next.
