Abstract

The stability of a polyolefin is improved by dispersing the purified polyolefin powder in an inert hydrocarbon, admixing with 0.1 to 1% of an organic mono-cyano or di-cyano compound, heating under the action of ultra-violet rays, separating and then washing the polyolefin. In examples, the cyano compounds used are acetonitrile, adiponitrile, acrylonitrile and benzonitrile, and the hydrocarbon medium is heptane. The treated polyolefins are tested for stability in compositions containing dilauryl thiodipropionate and thio - bis - (3 - Me - 6 - t Bu-phenol).
