Abstract

The improvement in or modification of the process claimed in Specification 896,396, wherein (i) a product obtained by the polymerization of a monomeric unsaturated fatty acid containing more than 7 C under conditions such that the free carboxyl group of the monomer is preserved, or an alkyl or glycol ester of such a polymerization product forms at least part of the fatty acid component used in the preparation of the component A1; and/or (ii) such a polymerization product or an alkyl or glycol ester thereof is used to replace at least a part of the fatty acid glyceride in the preparation of the component A-2. The polymerization products are derived from thermal or catalytic polymerization of monomeric unsaturated fatty acids to form di-, tri- and polymeric compounds and may contain residues of monomeric vinyl compounds, e.g. styrene which are copolymerized simultaneously. In Example (1) maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, n-hexanol and triethanolamine were first reacted at 130-140 DEG C. and then ethylene glycol, benzoic acid, azelaic acid, dimerized linoleic acid dimethyl ester and trimerized linoleic acid trimethyl ester and diterkiarybutyl-p-cresol as inhibitor were added and condensation carried out. A solution of the product in styrene was added to a complex isocyanate solution (prepared from styrene, tolylene diisocyanate, benzoquinone, dry castor oil, dry boleko oil and a mixture of hexane triol and 2-ethylhexane 1,3-diol) and diethylaniline in vinyltoluene and dibenzoyl peroxide and dimethylphthalate added. The mass was allowed to solidify overnight and then heated gently up to 120 DEG C. to obtain golden brown mass.
