Abstract

A composition for reducing the formation of bacteria, coccidia, algae and/or fungi in or on a base material comprises dichlorophen (5, 51-dichloro-2, 21dihydroxy-diphenyl methane) or an alkali metal salt thereof, e.g. the sodium salt, and sand. The composition may contain up to 10% w/w of dichlorophen. The composition may be used as a protective coating for a base material and many industrial and horticultural applications are described.
