Abstract

Anion exchange resins contain as exchange groups, tertiary amino groups of formula -N(ROH)2, where R is -(CH2)nwhere n is 2-6; or -C2H4(XC2H4)n-, where n i 1-3 and X is a divalent atom or radical of two atoms, e.g. -O-or-NH-; in all cases the nitrogen atom being attached to the resin matrix by its free valence. The resin may be based on a polymer of styrene cross-linked with divinyl benzene. In an example, styrene was polymerized in suspension with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linking agent, swollen with ethylene dichloride and chloromethylated, the polymer beads were then treated with diethanolamine to produce the anion exchange resin which could be used to demineralize water containing organic matter.
