Abstract

A polyurethane lacquer is produced by reacting, in a solvent medium and in the presence of a catalyst, a polyol containing more than two hydroxyl or thiol groups in the molecule and having a molecular weight of not greater than 500, e.g. trimethylol propane, with a non-crosslinked prepolymer produced by reacting a polymeric diol having a molecular weight greater than 750, e.g. a polyether, polyester or polyester amide diol such as neopentyl glycol aliphatic acid polyester, with an aliphatic diisocyanate, e.g. dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate. The solvent may be acetone, methylene, chloride, or butyl acetate. The catalyst may be trimethylenediamine or dibutyl tin dilaurate.ALSO:A wooden games racquet which has been impregnated with a polyamide resin (see Division D1) is coated with a polyurethane resin (see Division C3).ALSO:A wooden games racquet which has been impregnated with a polyamide resin (see Division D1) is coated with a polyurethane resin (see Division C3). A solution of the polyurethane resin in acetone, methylene chloride, or butyl acetate may be sprayed on the racquet using electrostatic spray equipment. The racquet may be heated to 85 DEG F. to evaporate the solvent and then to 175 DEG F. to cure the resin.ALSO:A wooden games racquet to be coated with a polyurethane resin (see Division C3) is pretreated by impregnation with a solution of a polyamide resin and the solvent allowed to evaporate. The polyamide resin may be soluble nylon having a m.p. of 70-80 DEG C. The solvent may comprise methyl, n-propyl, or n-butyl alcohol and may also comprise water. The solution may be mixed with a filler, e.g. whiting, titanium dioxide, talc, lithipone, zinc oxide, or magnesium carbonate, to form a paste. 25-250 parts of filler per 100 parts of solvent may be employed. The composition may be applied by dipping, bushing, spraying, or spreading. Spraying may be effected at 30-40 DEG C.
