Abstract

1,026,545. Transistor amplifying circuits. HONEYWELL Inc. Oct. 15, 1962, No. 39005/62. Heading H3T. [Also in Division G4] In an amplifier with feedback between input and output terminals these terminals are at the same potential in the absence of an input signal. A two-stage direct-coupled transistor amplifier comprises a pair of NPN transistors 22, 30 with the input signal applied in pushpull to their bases, which are connected to earth over resistors 26, 34 respectively. The emitters are connected via a common resistor 35 to a source of negative potential. Loads 42, 40 are provided in the respective collector circuits which are direct-coupled via leads 51, 45 respectively to the bases of a pair of PNP transistors 52, 46. A capacitor 43 connected between the collectors prevents high-frequency instability. The emitters of transistors 52, 46 are connected via a common resistor 56 to a source of positive potential, and their collectors via load resistors 60, 57 respectively to a source of negative potential. Output terminals 63, 62 are connected to the respective collectors 55, 49 and are back-coupled to give negative feedback, to the input terminals 21, 20 respectively via resistors 67, 64 respectively. The D.C. conditions are so adjusted that in the absence of an input signal no current flows in the resistors 64, 67. In addition, positive feedback is applied between the output terminal 62 and input terminal 21 via series-connected resistor 65 and capacitor 66, so that the output of the amplifier contains a first component proportional to the input signal and a second corresponding to the time derivative; the arrangement is made such that with no input the positive and negative feedback balance one another. In a modification, the negative feedback resistors 64, 67 are omitted and the resistor 65 returned to the collector of transistor 52 instead of that of transistor 46; the arrangement then gives an output containing a component proportional to the time integral, instead of the derivative, of the input signal.
