Abstract

A coating composition consists essentially of 92 to 99 1/2 parts by weight of an asphaltic emulsion, 1/4 to 4 p.b.w. of glass fibres in which each fibre has a length of 1/8 to 3/4 inch, and 1/4 to 4 p.b.w. of organic fibres each having a length of 1/8 to 1 1/2 inches and a toughness, flexibility and resiliency of hogs' hairs. Preferably the organic fibres are actual hogs' hairs or bristles, but crimped nylon or crimped rayon having the necessary physical properties can also be used. The composition may also contain clay and may be applied by brushing, mopping or spraying in one or more layers to roofing materials such as felt.ALSO:A coating composition consists essentially of 92 to 99 1/2 parts by weight of an asphaltic emulsion, 1/4 to a 4 P.B.W. of glass fibres in which each fibre has a length of 1/8 to 3/4 inch, and 1/4 to 4 P.B.W. of organic fibres each having a length of 1/8 to 1 1/2 inches and a toughness, flexibility and resiliency of hogs' hairs. Preferably the organic fibres are actual hogs' hairs or bristles, but crimped nylon or crimped rayon having the necessary physical properties can also be used. The composition may also contain clay and may be applied by brushing, mopping or spraying in one or more layers to concrete or roofing materials such as felt.
