In a method of making a cast of a foot or hand, the foot or hand is placed and is maintained stationary in a container 1 in which is poured a gel-forming solution of a moulding material which contains a mixture of the two organic monomers acrylamide and N,N<SP>1</SP>- methylene bisacrylamide in the presence of a catalyst component beta-dimethylaminopropionitrile and ammonium persulphate. When the mould material sets the hand or foot is withdrawn and cast material, e.g. plaster of Paris, is poured into the cavity 8.
