Abstract
1,025,537. Irrigation. L. A. TURNER. Nov. 3, 1964 [Nov. 7, 1963], No. 44836/64. Heading A1B. A self-cleaning screen assembly for irrigation comprises a spillway channel 16 through a weir, a pivoted gate valve 19 comprising a trough-shaped float pivoted at the downstream end of a chamber 18 in the bottom of said channel, a clean water take-off 23 from said float chamber 18 to a canal or similar, a screen grid 25 pivotally mounted upstream and overlaying said gate valve such that lifting, i.e. opening, said gate valve 19 raises the free end of the screen grid 25, while downward closing of the gate valve 19 permits the screen grid 25 to assume a horizontal position to allow debris to be washed down the spillway channel 16. The float 19 may be raised or lowered according to the setting of a control lever 28 whereby a valve 27 may be opened to permit entry of water into the float 19 but becomes syphoned out more quickly through a pipe 30 until the float. 19 rises and closes: valve 27. If lever 28 is moved to an intermittent position the valve 27 is open whatever the float position is: and thereby causes a succession of: lifting and lowering operations. In the fully flooding position of valve 27 the float 19 remains in the down position.
