Abstract

A gas turbine engine comprises an annular flow duct in which there are disposed in series flow a compressor, combustion equipment and a turbine; a shaft on which the compressor and turbine are mounted, and a fuel supply control system which has one or more rotating parts, the fuel supply control system being mounted internally of the annular flow duct and disposed between the compressor and the turbine, there being drive means for driving the rotating part or parts of the fuel supply control system from the shaft and means for heat insulating the fuel supply control system. The engine shown in Fig. 1 is a two-shaft type gas turbine vertical lift engine and comprises a low pressure compressor 12 and a low pressure turbine 16 mounted on a common shaft 21, a high pressure compressor 13 and a high pressure turbine 15 mounted on a common shaft 20 disposed around the shaft 21, and combustion equipment 14 disposed between the high pressure compressor 13 and the high pressure turbine 15. Th annular flow path of the engine is indicated at 11 and the engine fuel supply control unit 22 is disposed in the space between the inner wall of the annular flow path 11 and the outer shaft 20. The fuel control unit 22 includes a pump 25, Fig. 2, not shown, and other rotatable parts such as valves formed by relatively rotatable concentric sleeves and these parts are driven by means of a gear 26 mounted on the shaft 20 and a pinion 27 drivingly connected to the rotatable parts. The control unit is mounted within and is heat insulated from a housing 30 which is carried by a substantially radially extending wall 31. The wall 31 is formed with openings 32 for the flow of cooling air. In a second embodiment a heat insulating shield is disposed between the inner wall of the annular flow duct and the fuel control unit.
