Abstract
1,025,456. Valves. UNITED PROCESS MACHINERY CO. March 10, 1964 [March 11, 1963], No. 10043/64. Heading F2V. [Also in Division B1] In apparatus for making polyurethane foam (see Division B1) the material flow rates are maintained constant over a range of pressures by automatic flow control valves, Fig. 3, each having a partly hollow differential piston 32, 33; material enters at 28 and passes through the ports 39 into the interior of the piston, through passage 40, needle valve 35, chamber 37 and outlet 29. The pressure in chamber 37 is transmitted to the further end of the piston by passage 38 so that the ends of the piston are acted upon by the difference in pressure across the needle valve 35, which is balanced by spring 34. A fall in inlet pressure will allow the spring 34 to move the piston to the left as shown in the Figure, uncovering more of the ports 39 so that the flow rate is maintained. The needle valve is adjustable and has a rounded nose to adapt it for use with very viscous liquids.
