Abstract

In a folding hatch-cover comprising at least two hinged panels 12, 14 movable together to open the area covered by both panels, one panel 12 is movable independently by an hydraulic ram 30a to open only the area covered by that panel 12. As shown the hatch is covered by six panels in two groups of three, e.g. 12, 14, 16 and 18, 20, etc., the outer panel 16 of each group being hinged at one end 22 to the deck structure and at the other 26 to the next panel 14, which is hinged together with the panel 12, to a travelling roller truck 30 to which one end of the ram 30a is pivoted. Energising the ram 30a raises the end panel 12 alone to the Fig. 2 position whilst energising a second ram 32 between the panels 14, 16 folds up the remaining panels so that all the panels are arranged vertically and side by side. (Fig. 3, not shown).
