Abstract

A yarn tensioning device comprises a shaft 12, The Figure (not shown), rotated by a yarn engaging a pulley and fast with a frusto-conical race 11 over which run caged tapered rollers 14, also running over a neoprene, &c. 0-ring 13 in a fixed cup-shaped race 15. As the rollers 14 run over the 0-ring 13, they repeatedly compress and deform the latter, so that due to internal hysterisis, heat is developed. The cup-shaped race 15 may be made from heat insulating material. A nut 18 screwed into the cup-shaped race 15 permits axial adjustment of the relative positions of the parts to control the tension in the yarn.
