Abstract

1,023,366. Loading and unloading vehicles; luffing arm machines. OHIO BRASS CO. Oct. 6, 1964, No. 40770/64. Headings B8E and B8H. Apparatus, mounted on the rear of a lorry 10, for loading and unloading cable reels R or the like comprises arms 26, 26a, secured to a shaft which is rotatable through at least 180 degrees in brackets 43, and pivotally supported hydraulic rams having piston-rods 36a connected by links 48 to cranks 46 secured to the shaft. Links 50 connect the links 48 to fixed pivot points 50b on the lorry. The outer ends of the arms 26, 26a are provided with C-shaped supports 30 for the spindle 22 supporting the reel, pins being provided for locking the spindle at one end of the supports during luffing of the arms 26, 26a. Sub-assemblies for connecting the apparatus to the lorry are also described.
