Abstract

In the yarn-joining apparatus of the parent Specification, the movable platforms 45, 81 are replaced by a single movable platform 45, Fig. 1 not shown. The position of this platform is determined by a lever 92 beneath it. The lever is freely rotatable on a shaft 74, the weight of the platform being counterbalanced by a spring 130. The shaft 74 is rotated according to the position of the ring-rail by a lever 76 with a roller 77 resting on the rail. The movement of lever 92 is derived from the shaft 74 under control of a cam 145. This, through a lever 133, Fig. 2 not shown, rotates, relatively to the shaft 74, a sleeve 132 having a recessed ring 143. A lever 138 rotatable abut the sleeve has pivoted to it a two-armed lever 136a which is coupled to lever 92 by a pin 141 engageable with a member 142. A similar arrangement 139, 140 couples lever 138 to a lever 137 fast with shaft 74. As the ring-rail ascends, lever 76 turns shaft 74 to rotate lever 137, and bring pin 139 against member 140. Levers 138 and 136a are thus raised to bring pin 141 against member142 to raise platform lever 92. It is now necessary for the platform to discend to a limited extent so that a suction nozzle 87 can size the broken-end. Cam 145 rotates the sleeve through lever 133 for the recess in ring 143 to register with the rear end of lever 136a and cause the latter to pivot to move pin 141 away from member 142 and allow platform lever 92 to descend. The platform is raised again to withdraw the broken end, as rotation of cam 145 moves sleeve 132 to such a position that lever 136a moves out of the recess to move pin 141 against member 142. Further raising of the platform for lifting the nozzle 85 to take the thread to the thread-guide is effected by rotation of the sleeve until a lever 134 fast thereon becomes coupled through pin 135 and member 148 with platform lever 92. During the down-stroke of the traverse, the lever 138 does not descend because a pawl 79 on lever 138 engages a ratchet-wheel 80 fast with shaft 74. The platform lever is caused to descend, however, on the down-stroke, by the provision on lever 137 of a pivoted lever similar to lever 136a which co-operates with a recessed ring on shaft 74 similar to ring 143. This pivoted lever is adapted to be coupled to lever 92 by a pin and member similar to the coupling 142, 141 between levers 92 and 136a
